A Seminar on “ Arbitrary Detention”

April 13, 2024

The Human Rights Cell of our college organized a seminar on “Arbitrary Detention” on April 13, 2024. Ms. Meghan R. Anand, an advocate from Mangalore, was the resource person. She defined arbitrary detention as the confinement of a person without any legal reason, grounds, or trial in a court of law. She emphasized that this practice violates fundamental rights, particularly personal freedom, and contravenes the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).

Dr. Ganesh Shetty U., Convener of the Human Rights Cell, and Mrs. Keerthi Alva, Co-convener, were also present at the event. Approximately 100 students actively participated in the program.
