Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan, an Indian Librarian and educator is considered the father of Library Science in India. His contribution has worldwide influence and every year 12th August is celebrated as National Librarian’s Day.
National Librarians Day is celebrated in remembrance of Padmashree Dr. Ranganathan, who spearheaded library development in India. This day reminds the Librarians their mission to work towards meeting the information needs of the people by proceeding high quality information system, the importance of library, and the vital role of a librarian in moulding and shaping the readers
Library and Information Centre of our College organized Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s Day on August 23, 2024 in the Seminar Hall. The program started with a prayer, followed by the welcome address to greet all the attendees and set the tone for the event. Mr. Raghavendra K. V., Deputy Director, Department of Public Libraries, City Central Library, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest for this auspicious occasion. In his inaugural speech he highlighted some of Dr. Ranganathan’s significant contributions to the field of library. These include his “Five Laws of Library Science,” which are the fundamental principles for library management and the development of classification systems. Further, he gave important tips and guided the students on how one can come out with flying colours in the competitive exams. Additionally, he emphasised on the importance of reading habits. 146 students benefited from this program.• This program strived to contribute to national development and inculcate a value system among the students.
