Konkani Bhasha Vidyarthi Mandal of our College organized an educational visit to Vishwa Konkani Kendra on September 21, 2024. We were privileged to have Mr. B. Devadasa Pai, President, Vishwa Konkani Kendra with us on our visit to Vishwa Konkani Kendra. Total 12 students visited the place.
Mr. B. Devadasa Pai intiated the discussion with the brief history of our Konkani communitys expansion throughout Goa. He highlighted that the communitys migration due to various reasons led to linguistic diversification. He also explained about our ancestral roots in South Goa. Mr. B. Devadasa Pai, further delivered an insightful thought on the historical evolution of Konkani language. The session also included a visual tribute to freedom fighters from our community. He described that the exhibit showcased the ancient Konkani Lipi inscribed on Shravanabelagola in the 10th Century. A unique aspect of the display was a collection of paintings by Mr. Vasudeva Kamath, illustrating traditional Konkani wedding rituals.
The main purpose of the visit to Smt. Laxmi Narayan Kamath Vishwa Konkani Library was to promote Konkani Language, culture and heritage globally. The museum at Vishwa Konkani Kendra showcases the rich cultural heritage and history of Konakni community. It describes the Konkani artefacts such as traditional utensils and tools. Historical documents such as rare manuscripts, letters, photographs, traditional Konkani musical instruments such as Gumot and Mandolin were on display. Vishwa Konkani Kendra has a special attraction with Audio-Visual presentations of Konkani history and culture guided tours available in Konkani, English and Kannada, also workshops and demonstrations on traditional Konkani crafts.
Vishwa Konkani Kendra library has various facilities such as Reading room, Research assistance and Digital Library access. They also conduct various events such as book release, author meets, literary discussions..
