As a part of Youth Day Celebrations Canara College, Mangaluru organised SRUJANA -2020, an intercollegiate University Level NSS Fest on January 16, 2020. It is a unique One day Inter Collegiate competition organised by NSS wing of the college exclusively to the NSS Volunteers, fully funded by our management, CHS Association.
The programme began with the hoisting of the NSS flag. All the dignitaries were escorted to the dais by Mrs. Dejamma and Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., the NSS Programme Officers of the college. The NSS volunteers sang the invocation followed by the welcome address given by Mrs.Dejamma.
Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., NSS Programme Officer, gave an insight into Srujana 2020. Various competitions like Street Play, Wealth out of waste, Face Painting, Poster Writing, Group Dance, Group Singing, Best All Rounder, etc. were held. 21 college teams participated in the fest.
Mr.Vismaya Vinayak, alumni, Tulu Film Actor and Director was the inaugurator. In his inaugural address, reminiscing his memories as a student of the college, stated that he was proud to be a student of the college, which motivated, encouraged and inspired him to pursue his dreams. He expressed gratitude to his teachers and the institute and wished Srujana, a grand success.
C A Vaman Kamath, Alternate Treasurer, CHS Association expressed his happiness to be a part of Srujana 2020 and conveyed his best wishes to all the participants.
Sri Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Higher Primary School and Kindergarten, Mangalore gave the Presidential remarks. He appreciated the Canara NSS unit for the recognition it has brought to the college and the service rendered by the volunteers of the college NSS unit in Construction of a road to a remote Kodman village, preparing the ground for a school garden in the Govt. High school, Kodman.
Dr. K.V.Malini, Principal, Canara College graced the occasion. Ms. BindiyaShet,and Mr. Dhanush , Student Conveners of Srujanaproposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sharanya , compered the program.
The Valedictory Ceremony
The valedictory ceremony was held in the evening. Mrs.Sujatha V. Shenoy, proud alumnus and the recipient of “Indira Priya Darshini NSS Award”, was the Chief Guest. She was the only Indian female who represented India in Japan at the International Youth Conference in the year 1998. In her address, she shared her experience on NSS then and now. She advised the students not to lose hope and explore new avenues.
Dr. Nagaratna, alumnus of the college and present NSS Coordinator, Mangalore University delivered the Valedictory Address. She advised the students to inculcate moral values and principles of Swami Vivekananda.
Dr. K V Malini, Principal of the college, in her Presidential Remarks, appreciated the efforts of all the staff and students involved in making the function a grand success.
Mr. Akash Shetty of SDM College, Mangalore won the All Rounder individual championship (SrujanaRathna). Govindasa College, Surathkal were declared Overall Champions and SDM College of Business Management, the Runners up Champions respectively. Ms. Nuthana M G, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sanjana compered the program.
